Global CY 2024/25 cotton production to rise by over 1.2 million bales: USDA

According to the latest report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), global cotton production for the 2024/25 crop year is expected to increase by over 1.2 million bales, reaching a total of 121.2 million bales. This marks a notable rise in production, driven by a combination of favorable weather conditions and improved planting areas in key cotton-growing regions worldwide.

The USDA’s forecast highlights a significant production boost in several major cotton-producing countries, including India, China, and the United States. In India, which remains the largest cotton producer, an increase in area planted to cotton is expected to contribute to a steady rise in output. Similarly, the U.S. is anticipated to see a recovery in cotton yields after adverse conditions in the previous crop year.

The report also predicts that global cotton consumption will see modest growth in the coming year. While demand remains strong, particularly in Asia, global economic uncertainties and fluctuating textile production in some regions could impact overall consumption levels.

On the export front, the USDA estimates that the top exporters of cotton will continue to hold strong positions in international markets, with India, the U.S., and Brazil leading the pack. The global cotton market is expected to remain dynamic as producers and consumers navigate fluctuating demand and shifting weather patterns.

This rise in cotton production reflects optimism in the global agricultural sector, with key players adapting to changing conditions while meeting the needs of textile industries worldwide.
