AEPC has launched Apparel Industry Sustainability Action (AISA) 2022–2023

Textile industry in Asia is now fully aware that non compliance with sustainable supply chains would hurt the exports to the developed economies. This is the reason sustainability is now counted as one of the major pillars of export business.

In Pakistan the credit for pursuing sustainable textile production goes to the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association that established a support department for sustainable measures need in textiles at its Lahore office in collaboration with German NGO GIZ. It was established over a decade back. It also established an energy audit wing that advises mills to reduce their energy wastages and save carbon emissions. The APTMA also gives some premium on the cotton produced under the best cotton initiative program under which farmers are encouraged to minimize use of water, fertilizers and pesticides.

In India the Apparel Export Promotion Council has launched Apparel Industry Sustainability Action (AISA) 2022–2023.
The aim of this initiative is to evaluate the existing status of the Indian garment industry across the value chain. More specifically it is aimed at hand holding with MSMEs that lack both awareness and resources. The MSMEs would be encouraged to widen their penetration of sustainability measures with demonstrations and solutions.

The AISA would enhance the visibility of those brands at global platforms that have produced products in line with sustainable practices.
