Asia Pacific Rayon partners garment retailer on textile recycling program

Indonesia-based producer of cellulose fibres Asia Pacific Rayon has partnered with Indonesia’s biggest garment and footwear retailer, Matahari to launch a used clothing recycling program.

As a part of this ‘Recycle Your Clothes’ program, Matahari customers are encouraged to participate in reducing textile waste via a recycling program for a better environment.

Asia Pacific is supporting the program by installing two sorting boxes in Matahari stores in which, customers can drop their used clothing.

To encourage customers to put their used clothes in the drop box, they get a Matahari shopping voucher in the form of a 25 percent discount which can be spent on normal-priced products at Matahari.

Currently, the ‘Recycle Your Clothes’ drop box is available at 46 Matahari outlets and these outlets are spread across various cities of Indonesia like Jabodetabek, Medan, Surabaya, Bandung, etc.

“In line with our goal to support a sustainable textile and fashion industry, Asia Pacific Rayon is happy to support Matahari to hold this eco-friendly program,” Basrie Kamba, Director at Asia Pacific Rayon said.

“We believe this program will contribute to reducing the amount of 26 tons of textile waste in Indonesia through our sorting, tracing, and recycling initiative,” Kamba explained.

“Matahari commits to reduce the number of clothes that end up in landfills and also strives to manage improvements in textile waste,” Terry O’Connor, CEO at Matahari also said.

“Matahari is excited to cooperate with Asia Pacific Rayon and its sorter partner, which has remarkable experiences and expertise in this field, carrying out a commitment to recycle fabrics sustainably”, he added.
