Cambodia’s apparel sector grows despite the Russia-Ukraine war while others struggled

Cambodian apparel sector brushed aside the turmoil caused by the Russia-Ukraine war or supply chain disruption registering a growth of 20 percent in the US market in the first ten months of 2022.

Cambodian apparel exports during the first ten months of 2022 are higher than the exports in the entire of 2021. The country is relatively new in apparel manufacturing but has out shown most of its established competitors posting regular growth and defying global lockdowns since 2020. Its apparel exports have been rising since 2017 when they reached 2.164 billion rising to $.2.447 billion in 2018, 2.73 billion in 2019, and 2.953 billion in 2020.

In 2021 the apparel exports from Cambodia jumped to $3.522 billion and during the first 10 months of 2022, the exports reached $3.953 billion. The Cambodian apparel exports are well poised to cross the $4 billion barrier in 2022 and are likely to reach $4.5 billion. The assessment is based on average monthly exports of $3.9 million in the first ten months of 2022.

Cambodia has shown to the world that growth even during a stressful time is possible through prudent planning, marketing, and dedication. The feat is commendable in view of the high inflation in buying economies that forced many brands to cut their orders. The consumers also put the apparel out of their priority buying list as they struggled to meet other essential expenses.
