Chinese textile & apparel exports down 9.2% in nine months

In the first nine months of the current year, Chinese exports of textiles and apparels reached US $245.72 billion, down 9.2 percent from a year ago period. Of these, textile exports stood at $112.55 billion, a drop of 9.8 percent and garment exports were $133.16 billion, a decline of 8.7 percent, both falling over the comparable period of 2022. In October alone, textile and clothing overseas shipments amounted to $22.97 billion, falling 4.8 percent over the same month in earlier year.

Among them, textile exports totaled $10.71 billion, descending 3.3 percent and apparel exports were $12.26 billion, decreasing 6.0 percent over October 2022. Between January and September, Chinese exports of textiles and garments to its main markets like the US, the EU and Japan reduced 15.6, 20.5 and 12.3 percent, respectively year over year. However, they grew to Russia, Kazakhstan and Singapore by 20.4 percent, 52.4 percent and 24.9 percent respectively.
