EU Ecolabel accredited to Lenzing Indonesia plant

Lenzing would be producing Ecovero viscose branded fibers accredited to the EU Ecolabel standard that it manufactures at its manufacturing facility in Purwakarta, Indonesia.

The site, which recently underwent a series of technical upgrades, will now produce Lenzing Ecovero branded fibers for textiles as well as Veocel branded fibers for the nonwovens sector. This move ramped up production to cater to the growing demand from across the region.
The accreditation came at a time when the Lenzing Indonesia plant switched to renewable energy sources. The reduction in emissions by this plant will contribute to Lenzing’s goal of reducing carbon emissions per ton of product by 50 percent by 2030. The manufacturer claims that by 2050 it will achieve carbon-neutral production.

An official of Lenzing Group said after shifting its previous production capacities to viscose the group is well placed to supply environmentally friendly fibers the demand for which is growing. He expressed pleasure in receiving the EU Ecolabel, which confirms Lenzing’s sustainability performance.

Lenzing Ecovero branded viscose fibers have been used in knitwear products such as fashionable tops, dresses, t-shirts, and loungewear. Brands using Ecovero brand viscose fibers include top global fashion labels, including M&S, H&M, and Levi’s.

The converted production site has successfully reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 130,000 tons annually.
