Indian garment industry to get a boost from Vishwakarma Yojna

The Indian government has announced PM Vishwakarma Yojna, a scheme which is expected to benefit the garment industry, as it offers several benefits, suitable for specific needs of skilled artisans working in the Indian clothing industry.

The Apparel, Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council welcomed the Vishwakarma Yojna and called it a momentous step that will bring immense promise to the apparel industry and artisans.

The scheme according to the Council is expected to empower artisans in the apparel industry to enable them to improve the scale, quality, and reach of their products and at the same time seamlessly integrate into the MSME value chain.

The scheme provides government support by way of loans of between INR 1-2 lakhs as well as the adoption of eco-friendly green technologies, advanced skill training, and expertise in modern digital techniques.

The scheme also emphasizes promoting brands of skilled artisans by providing them with more visibility and recognition in local and global markets.

“Artisans will gain access to a broader consumer base, thereby expanding market reach and potential, by establishing robust linkages with local and global markets,” Dr. A Sakthivel, Chairman, AMHSSC said.

“Recognising the immense potential of artisans in remote areas, the scheme encourages stakeholders to devise plans that unlock their abilities as suppliers,” he added.

“The scheme aligns perfectly with AMHSSC’s dedication to fostering growth, equity, and prosperity within the garment sector,” Dr Sakthivel stated.
