Irish fashion retailer Primark releases first-ever Sustainability and Ethics Progress Report

The Irish fast fashion retailer Primark Stores Limited, carrying chain stores throughout Europe and the USA, has released the first-ever Sustainability and Ethics Progress Report, claiming progress by leaps and bounds.

According to the report, half of the apparel products of the retail brand are made from recycled sources, touching 45% against 25% back last September when it had taken the initiative of sustainability as a matter of policy.

In addition, over 250,000 farmers have been extended with training facilities on sustainable cotton production practices, which is the biggest of its kind program launched by any single fashion retailer so far. The management aims to add another 25,000 farmers to the programme by the end of 2023 to promote steps for climate protection and progress to the people attached to the industry.

It may be noted that leading fashion retailers have surrendered to the rising pressure of adopting sustainability practices worldwide in the last few years.

Both the environmentalists and human rights activists are watching closely the steps taken by them. In a recent development, human rights activists have objected strongly to an advert from Balenciaga, another fast fashion retail brand, for projecting bonded labor and sexual abuse to children. They are also demanding leading fashion brands condemn the move by the retailer.
