Korteks installs plant to produce recycled polyester from waste

Korteks has announced to open a new facility to produce polyester yarns from PET waste bottles. Korteks is the leading yarn produce in Turkey. The company announced that it has finally completed one of the most critical sustainability-oriented investments with our new generation textile approach focused on innovation based on circular economy.

The newly installed unit (Starlinger recoSTAR universal 165 H-VAC iV+) has a monthly production capacity of 600 tons in a total closed area of 17.000m². The company will produce RPET Chips, the raw material of recycled polyester yarn, from PET bottles and yarn wastes and transform them into polyester filament yarn. Korteks expects the recycling market to grow as there is increased acceptance for recycled products in society and predicts the need for recycling solutions and other synthetic and natural fibers. Starlinger recycling technology offers a spectrum of innovative machinery solutions for the efficient recycling of various plastics, such as PE and PP, PET, PA, PS, PLA, PMMA, and many more.

A member of the Turkish Zorlu Holding Group, Korteks started its operations in Bursa, Turkey, in 1989. Korteks has an annual production capacity of 170,000 tons, meeting 17 % of Turkey’s yarn demand and exporting to almost 60 countries on five continents. Korteks already offers a wide range of fibers for the textile industry, from conventional to functional yarns.
