Maxcess introduces FIFE-500 MAX Web Guiding System for nonwovens

Maxcess has unveiled the FIFE-500 MAX web guiding system. Ideal for nonwoven, tag and label, battery converting, and numerous other narrow web applications, the FIFE-500 MAX packs in more features while improving accuracy and throughput. Featuring a five-inch touchscreen interface with multiple languages, newly designed sensors for enhanced resolution and accuracy, a smoother 8-pole motor for better guiding at slow speeds, and an all-new modern design, the FIFE-500 MAX ushers in the next generation of guiding from Fife, the company that invented the first web guide back in 1939. The FIFE-500 MAX can accommodate web widths up to 600 mm, with maximum tension up to 400 N. Fife will release larger sizes of the FIFE-500 MAX, up to 900 mm and 800 N, in Q4 of 2022.

Leveraging the latest in web guiding technology, the FIFE-500 web guiding system for narrow web and nonwoven applications is a cost-effective solution that helps improve efficiency.

At the heart of the FIFE-500 is a color touch screen that’s operator-friendly, featuring icons and text in 20 languages to simplify operation and reduce the time necessary for training. In addition, its brushless motor requires less maintenance, saving time and money.

The FIFE-500 Web Guiding System is designed for use in industrial equipment that is involved with processing a moving web.

It is typically installed in line with web travel to provide lateral steering of the web in critical areas such as winding, rewinding, or any important mid-stream process. It is not uncommon to find multiple web guides steering the same web at different locations of web travel.

Guiding a web is accomplished by applying several concepts with each directed at a particular part of the task.

The basic concepts are:
• Sense the lateral position of the web edge (sensors)
• Generate a correction signal proportional to the error (signal processor)
• Apply forces to the web to non-destructively move it to the desired location (motor-controlled mechanical pivoting rollers)
