Nigeria is keen to increase bilateral trade with Pakistan

High Commissioner of Nigeria Abioye Muhammed Bello has said that Nigeria is importing textile products from India and China. Pakistani textile products are the best in quality and have a great scope in the Nigerian market. He said that there is a lack of expertise to run the industries in Nigeria. Pakistan should avail of this opportunity through joint ventures. Furthermore, he said that Nigeria would extend cooperation to the private sector of Pakistan for joint ventures with their Nigerian counterparts. He said that the dissemination of trade-related information holds key importance in strengthening mutual trade relations.

Mr. Mian Nauman Kabir, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), said that Pakistan is aware of the economic importance of Nigeria. Mr. Nauman said that it is the largest economy in Africa with a GDP of over $500 billion and the biggest oil producer in Africa. Lahore Chamber has always stressed exploring avenues for unlocking our trade and economic potential with the African continent’s major economies.

LCCI president further said that both countries have considerable potential to take the trade volume to at least one billion dollars. We need to enhance trade, and economic cooperation in Light Engineering Products, Surgical Instruments, Pharmaceuticals, Automotive Parts, Sports Goods, and Value Added Textiles. Pakistan has a blossoming IT sector, and Nigeria can undoubtedly learn from our expertise in this sector. We would also welcome Joint Ventures with Nigerian counterparts to explore the tremendous potential of the Tourism sector in Pakistan.
