OEKO-TEX® enables consumers and companies to make responsible decisions that protect our planet for future generations. The testing and certification process on which our standards are based guarantees maximum consumer safety. The OEKO-TEX® Association has also published its annual updates of the test criteria, limit values , and requirements for its certification. All new regulations will go into effect after the transition period on April 1, 2022. OEKO-TEX®’s most important innovation for 2022 is the new impact calculator for the textile and leather industry. The new impact calculator enables individual production sites to identify the most significant impacts of CO2 emissions and water consumption, take action to achieve reduction goals, and share carbon and water footprint data.
To achieve the industry goal for 2030, companies need reliable data and promote progress and data sharing throughout the global supply chain; OEKO-TEX® has launched the Impact Calculator. The tool measures each step’s carbon and water footprint, the general process, and one kilogram of material/product. In 2022, OEKO-TEX® will continue to monitor various substances based on the latest scientific discoveries and compliance with relevant specifications. This mainly refers to some preservatives of the process and the bisphenols F, S, and AF.
In mid-2022, the association will present RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS by OEKO-TEX®, a new certification for brands and retailers committed to international human rights and environmental protection agreements. OEKO-TEX® aims to help companies meet due diligence obligations within their operations and global supply chains. OEKO-TEX® RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS was developed following the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct.
