Opportunity for Pakistani fabric producers to export more to Cambodia

Although Cambodia imports most raw materials from China, Pakistan may make headway into the Cambodian textile and garment industry by supplying the country with raw materials like fabrics.

“Pakistan is one of the competitive players in textile and garment production,” Kaing Monika, Deputy Secretary General of Textile, Apparel, Footwear & Travel Goods Association in Cambodia (TAFTAC) said.

“Monika made these remarks after returning from the First ASEAN-Pakistan Business Opportunity Conference 2023, held in Lahore and Karachi last week,” media reports said.

“Pakistan’s strength lies in cotton-based fabrics and so while Cambodia imports these fabrics in small quantities, there lies an opportunity to grow imports of these cotton fabrics,” Monika added.

TAFTAC has 1,077 member factories, of which 802 are apparel units, 140 footwear facilities and 134 produce luggage goods.

Between them, the factories employ approximately 764,000 workers, and exports from these sectors total US $12 billion.
