Revival of cotton workshop arranged to train almost 300 farmers for greater cotton yield

In efforts to increase the yearly yield of cotton, the government has taken several different initiatives, one of which is,” Revival of Cotton, Climate Change Position and Action Plan for the Eradication of Pinkbalworm,” a training workshop arranged by the Central Cotton Research Institute in collaboration with Kashtkar Foundation.

Approximately 300 cotton growers were trained regarding the use of best crop management practices for achieving higher per-acre output during the coming season. The one day workshop was attended by farmers, scientists, and exporters. A discussion also ensued about the declining cotton crop, issues and the daily challenges that the cotton growers face.

Solutions were also discussed such as adopting scientific-based, innovative techniques to reduce the pest attacks to earn higher crop output, besides enhancing farm income. The farmers were given training on land preparations, use of fertilizers and pesticides, besides other innovative technologies to enhance per-acre crop production.

A scheme of incentives was also initiated by the government to encourage the farmers to grow more cotton and minimize the input cost of cotton, besides reducing the cost of doing business.

The other big issue that is proving to be a hindrance in cotton production is the pest attack in cotton fields like whitefly and pink bollworm. The subsidy has also been provided by the government on the imports of PB Rope. The government has also promised to ensure the availability of 100pc high yielding, pest-resistant seeds to enhance per-acre crop output.
