Governor of State Bank of Pakistan, Mr. Arshad Wathra repeated the government’s resolution to recover the textile industry and promised clear support to the stakeholders.
While addressing the meeting, he asked the representatives from banking sector to play their role in reestablishing the textile industry and suggested that this can be done by supporting the exporters with an extension of loans.
He also said that it is moral responsibility of the business community to bring back the foreign liquidity and assets and it will play a significant impact on the refurbishment of the textile industry. The aim of the meeting was to bring into light the problems faced by the textile industry and ways it can be sustained in coming days.
The representative of Habib Bank, Mr. Nauman Dar also expressed the concerns of the banking sector. He said that the textile industry needs to prove its competitiveness if they are looking for support from the banking sector. He also said that the government needs to offer subsidies to the textile exporter besides that, he personally believes in the potential of textile industry and mentioned some leading textile dealers to support his believe.
Senator Mohsin Aziz, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on the Textile Industry, also brought in light the significance of textile industry and its role in economic stability and the role of banking sector in bringing this stability. He also said that sustained textile industry will open doors to new opportunities in agriculture sector as well.
