Ternua introduces the innovative primaloft bio insulation in its autumn winter 2020 collection

Because recycling is not enough and since, more and more, we must move towards a circular economy, Ternua has taken another step in its roadmap in sustainable innovation, incorporating into its Autumn-Winter 2020 collection the innovative Primaloft Bio insulation. Specifically, within its Whales Spirit line, the range of garments for the Ternua’s urban tribe, with a sustainable soul, who are looking for elegant and sustainable garments that protect them from the cold, wind and rain in their day-to-day life.

Ternua has worked closely with Primaloft for years with the aim of applying its most sustainable innovations to its garments. On this occasion, the brand has introduced one of the latest innovations from this top-level supplier, Primaloft Bio, a biodegradable insulation* that offers quality and insulation and represents a further step in Ternua’s goal of creating 100% sustainable and biodegradable clothing. This new insulation has been designed based on recycled fibers (which maintain a 95% performance rate throughout the chemical recycling process) specifically designed to biodegrade* in the environments where the vast majority of plastics eventually end up: landfills and ocean water. Likewise, this technology has high quality standards, which guarantee a longer life for each product. This increases its useful life cycle and prevents it from becoming waste after a few years, ensuring that the garments leave practically no post-consumer footprint.

How does it work? When PrimaLoft Bio is exposed to environments such as landfills or ocean water, it breaks down into natural elements: water, CO2, methane, biomass and humus, a common component of potting soil. According to independent testing, PrimaLoft Bio achieves 93.8% biodegradation* in 646 days in an accelerated landfill environment. The remaining material contains no traces of plastic, only natural carbon-based elements, and the remaining soil is still perfectly suitable for the growth of vegetation. In an accelerated marine environment, fibers achieve 65.5% biodegradation* in 639 days. When compared to standard polyester, in the same test environments, it degrades only 1-1.5%.
