Textile industry in Morocco goes green with recycling plant

Morocco’s march towards sustainability and decarbonization of the textile sector has been supported by the official launch of Dolicen, a subsidiary of Moroccan manufacturer and distributor of polyurethane (PU) foam and bedding products Dolidol.

Moroccan Minister Ryad Mezzour highlighted the significance of this project in promoting a circular industry and ensuring sustainable production aligned with current environmental standards.

Dolidol is a well-known brand that produces polyurethane foam and bedding products. It is a leading manufacturer and supplier of foam-based products, including mattresses, pillows, cushions, and furniture upholstery.

Dolidol operates in several countries and has a wide range of products designed for various applications, such as residential, commercial, and industrial purposes. Their polyurethane foam is known for its comfort, durability, and versatility.

The project would be commissioned for $20 million which include $ 10 million secured through an investment agreement with the Bank. Dolicen specializes in the production of recycled PET products and polyester staple fibers, utilizing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) —a type of clear, strong, lightweight, and 100 percent recyclable plastic—as the key material.

The inauguration of Dolicen’s new plant, located in the Dolidol industrial complex in Dar Bouazza near Casablanca, marks a pivotal moment in Morocco’s journey towards a more environmentally conscious textile industry.

The project will be spread over 10,000 square meters and has provided 100 jobs at the construction stage. After completion, it would provide 100 direct jobs and an additional 1,000 indirect jobs.

Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour said at the inauguration highlighted the significance of this project in promoting a circular industry and ensuring sustainable production aligned with current environmental standards.

The factory will produce 12,000 tonnes of finished products per year, recycling over 600 million PET bottles annually.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), commonly known as PET plastic, serves as the primary material for Dolicen’s production. By utilizing PET, Dolicen underscores its commitment to sustainable practices and reinforces the positive environmental impact of its operations.
