Frontier.cool, a leading developer of cloud solutions for rapid fabric digitization at scale, has finally launched the world’s first MPSoC (Multi-Processor System on a Chip) for the textile industry – based on FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) hardware acceleration – at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas (USA).
The newly launched Fabric Meta Chip is a ‘dream team’ collaboration between Frontier.cool and E-Elements – the single-chip solutions experts. The Fabric Meta MPSoC was developed to convert physical fabric into digital material, thus allowing virtual apparel to be designed directly from real-world textile fabrics, expanding the benefits of virtual fashion and powering up the textile supply chain.
While using 3D design software, fashion designers face multiple challenges in their conventional avatar.
They have to rely on tools like Photoshop to recreate layers, such as displacement and roughness.
Apart from this, the designers often have to depend on guesswork and estimate the dimensions, which is a barbaric practice for product development. Even if the designers do not use Photoshop, they may need to send their fabric to a lab or buy an expensive kit that is slow processes and includes human interference. Another issue is scalability because the material digitization tasks in the fashion industry are not scaled without limits too often, restricting the options a designer can opt for.
More often than not, such practices are inaccurate and undesirable because subsequent processes suffer a lot in their workflows, resulting in productivity and time loss.
However, using the Frontier platform, Designers can search and select from fabric libraries containing thousands of individual swatches, and collect from the supply chain collaborators, which subsequently improves the entire workflow, reduces costly physical samples shipping and travel, and shortens the time to market. Designers do not need to purchase expensive equipment, and they do not need to use any additional software or need to be trained extensively on how to use it.
Fabrics can be uploaded in around 30 seconds, and a ready-to-use U3M file can be obtained in three minutes or less.
