BGMEA joins UN fashion industry for Climate Action

A Bangladesh’s firm has joined the United Nations (UN) Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGMEA) is already supporting the cause.

Under the auspices of UN Climate Change, fashion stakeholders resolved back in 2018 to identify ways in which the broader textile, clothing, and fashion industry can move towards a holistic commitment to climate action. Under the charter, it has been envisioned to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The Fashion Industry Charter was launched at COP24 in Katowice, Poland, in December 2018 and renewed at COP26 in Glasgow, UK, in November 2021.

According to details, Bangladeshi outerwear manufacturer 4A Yarn Dyeing Limited has taken the initiative in a commitment to address its environmental impact. The company, of the Team Group manufacturing conglomerate, is said to be the first of its kind to join the charter.

“The business is very much committed to sustainable production and that 4A Yarn is one of the trendsetting companies in Bangladesh taking actions for low carbon apparel manufacturing,” said Team Group’s managing director Abdullah Hil Rakib.

Bangladeshi outerwear manufacturer 4A Yarn Dyeing Limited is the 110th member of the charter, set to share a global agenda of sustainable textiles by 2050. Among others, many leading brands have already reserved positions on the membership list. Besides, some 44 industry organizations, are also supporting the cause worldwide.
